Given the plentitude of water in south Louisiana, the people there have become very clever at dealing with erosion. Here we see one of a set of parallel rows of planks driven into the floor of a lake to allow the water between them to calm and drop its sediment. The result is a sandbar and the gradual rebuilding of the land where once there was water.

Wow..those look so much like the "pilings" we have here , where docks used to be...these types of things always gived such a great look to a sunset...Interesting what yu said about the reason for these also. Louisiana has so much water yes, since it is at sea level..I have to say I dont miss living there, but there ARE certain things that were quiet interesting..the Gulf Was one of them...thanx for this posting...warm greeting..well maybe they need to be cool this time of year eh? I know the humidity in La. is horrendous right about now, I lived there 14 yrs...and whew it was stifling....

The more difficult the obstacle, the stronger one becomes after hurdling it.

Great color in this image Reg...the texture on the water is fascinating. I look forward to my 'lessons' in your comments. They are much appreciated. This will make a great soothing desktop for me! Thanks :~)

Excellent composition and explanation. Agree with Mimi about the texture of the water.

Exceptional capture. The colour, the water texture, the shaft of reflected sunlight. Well done.

Very nice! Thanks for commenting on "Hm...", I really appreciate it! This photo is pretty. I like how the vertical bar of light is placed to the side a little ways instead of dead center! And, it's a nifty idea by the Lousiana people! =)
