Funny how the world is: this structure no longer exists. Day before yesterday I shot this image, and today, ten-foot swells off Lake Ponchartrain swept it away as the storm surge from Hurricane Rita crashed from the lake into the marshes. The last month has changed my land forever. We learned that our immutable strengths can be effortlessly brushed aside by nature in a moment. Perhaps we are not the mightiest entity on the earth?

Nothing seems to last forever...and this devastation with the hurricane has certainly enforced that for us all. So now we have memories...which often will not be enough..but it is better to have them then to have nothing at all. We are not might at all. I think of what the Bible compares us to....we are as the lilies of the field...so insignificant...yet beautiful...but in time even the lily is gone...and when I think of how we look to the ones who have gone up into space...well, we are just a speck of dust..Thank you so much for not only sharing this photo..and the words about it, but to help us all stop and think a bit of the many on this earth who need our thoughts at this time...warm hugs to you Reg.!!

Nothing humbles so much as the power of nature, that's for sure, Reg...I am sorry to hear about the further devastation and that this is no longer there, but how timely that you should capture it so richly before its' demise...I love the deep, rich browns here and of course the crystal clear reflection...beautifully preserved by your presentation.:Pat.

I like work; it fascinates me. I can sit and look at it for hours.

I'm also sorry about everything that you've went through, but I think as things happen, in negative ways, it does make people stronger. As for the shot, I do like the lighting and the reflection. I hope everything gets better for you.

I don't understand the number. ;( Oh well. It is quite obvious to me that you are putting alot of emotion behind and into your last several images. That which doesn't kill us makes us stronger and I think your photography has gone up yet another notch. This capture is, in my opinion, mood inspiring, thought provoking, and composed beautifuly with light, colors, a pleasant left to right angle, reflections, and more pools of reflection.

g'day Reg,

glad you got the image before it left, i got a lot of them in my mind..maybe one day we will have that time machine to go back and take our cameras with us, won't that be discombobulating, trying to sift them out and running to get that pic?

Don't know if it's a cloudy sky or evening light but it really adds mood to this one. The reflection is pristine.

The beer urges me on, the bewitching beer, which sets even a wise man to singing and to laughing gently and rouses him up to dance and brings forth words which were better unspoken. Homer, The Odyssey (note: beer substituted for wine)
