This newspaper vending machine sits in the street where Hurricane Katrina left it. I thought the headline was appropriate. It weighs over 150 lbs., but the hurricane moved it without much trouble. I found it four weeks after the storm when we were allowed to go back to our homes. The neighborhood was full of anomalies like cars on roofs and boats on fences.

Regmar, it is just so hard to believe that this situation is still ongoing there. I cannot imagine what it is like for all of you that decided to stay or either go back home. You probably feel like you are in a state of disarray at all times. Having to rely on memory I assume where so many things once were that are either gone or halfway down the street. Thank you so much for still posting photos such as this to remind us. I for one really appreciate it. The best to you- Eileen

I agree with Eileen above, I am sure you must have a hard time with all this and still taking the time to give us viewers great pictures. I am pleased with the b&w image here and think this is a great shot. Nicely taken.

i agree with the others here, that the headline does really set the mood of the photo.. the B&W is an excellent choice.. it seems to catch the desperation we still face daily.. hopefully these reminders will show that things are not back to normal.. and that they wont be for a long time.. another great shot my friend..

Hi Regmar. When I saw this and read your note on it, it sure sound familiar to me since we had the terrible experience of the Tsunami on 2004.It takes lot of time and hard work to be normal again and I'am glad that humans never give up doing that. This image is very nicely done in b&w and you have managed to spark emotions using pieces of metal.

Emotional as an image can be...it brings with it a tight chest and hard eyes. I think the image itself should be cover...very moving Reg!

Great shot Reg. I think the black and white photo's that you and DJ have been doing are such duality to what all the residents of New Orleans are living......everyone is in a suspended area of muddled gray. There is no black and white answers to anything it seems. I admire the courage that you have to go back and rebuild your lives sort of from the ground up....my prayers are with all of you . Peace :~)

This photo may be the single best shot on the site not only for it's artistic appeal but also for the gravity of the subject. A picture truly is worth a thousand words. Beautifully done.

An excellent example of the force of wind and water. I am very glad you were not there to see the rack arrive at this location. Force 5 is almost impossible to comprehend. It is almost like trying to actually comprehending a billion.

Great composition and focus with a very fine narrative. Thanks for sharing.

Too bad you can't tell that it is post hurricane. The over exposed parts are pretty bad. The subject is a good idea but the end result doesn't reflect the attempt.
