This is another photo in our series on Hurricane Katrina's aftermath. These plastic flowers were tied to a fallen fence on the porch steps of a house that no longer exists. As you drive around the worst hit areas in New Orleans you can see this scene repeated many times - a front porch with no house, it having been washed away by the fast-moving flood waters. Apparently someone cared enough to leave this marker for those who lived here.

Very moving image. I like the angle that you shot from. The trees make an almost eerie background. You did a nice framing job as well. Very nicely done.

Another poignant, touching image of the severe devastation left behind by hurricane Katrina Reg. This image makes one wonder if this was a reminder that people lived there or left in memory of those who died there? Every time I view one of your or Dj's images from New Orleans, I am reminded of that horrid feeling in my gut that I got when the hurricane was approaching and the helpless that I felt and my son was there on rescue, not as a resident. I cannot imagine what the residents felt in their gut as they watched (or lived or died) as this monster tore through their homes, their lives and their city and destroyed what they knew. I hope that you & Dj are finding some catharsis in doing this series. I know that for me, it is a powerful reminder of something that I want to forget because of the pain it produced, not only inside of me, but what it did to other human beings. Another piece of excellent work, my friend. My best to you & Lourdes today . Peace :~)

Hi Regmar- So many questions lie behind these plastic flowers. Could they have been placed by the previous owners to express their grief and also love for where their home once stood? . Perhaps someone perished and this is some type of memorial left by someone who loved them. So many unanswered questions to ponder at just these simple plastic flowers. Only the person who left them can answer. Thank you Regmar- You have shown that something inanimate can shout.. Eileen

This is both touching & sad. A remembrance of what was there & is now gone. We can only imagine what the flowers symbolize. Regmar, this is nicely done & thank you for shariing.

I can honestly say that I would expect to see these images from a pro. I sit here wondering if this disaster has really changed your skill at photography or if is it purely the feelings I get from these images. I think it is your emotions though towards your composition. Wow, the mood swing is something else. Thanks Reg!

I love how you are capturing some photos from a historical perspective. While the technical aspects of your work are to be noted the content of your photography is what makes your work stand out. Thanks for posting these.

Oh my....such a simple photo that awakens so many emotions. Such a sad loss for someone and yet someone left the flowers..and the way you took this photo certainly touched my heart. Thank you for yet another moment left over from the hurrican disaster. You seem to be the only connection we really have, first hand, from all that devastation.
