Vanishing Point - revisited

A repost of Vanishing Point. When I first posted it someone (perhaps Les) suggested it would be a good candidate for an Orton effect. Not having a clue about Orton nor the time to figure out how to do it it kind of fell by the wayside. Now that Nigel has been kind enough to post a step-by-step primer here I thought I would take a run at it. Posted to 'Community' as it is a rework and I am really looking for honest critique on improvement!

i think I like the original better. I think I'm the only one on this site that thinks original/unedited pics are way more beautiful than edited pics. I'm not saying it's not good, it is, but I liked the original better :D

What a difference a day makes. lol Wow, that is really so much brighter and the trees accept the orton's so well. Great post, Rich. Happy Thanksgiving and all God's blessings to you as you follow the tracks of your life.

The two images have such different qualities... The first one is earthy and gritty, the way I sometimes felt taking the train home from Boston to Connecticut for the holidays... The second gives me a dreamy nostalgia about the same period in my life... in other words, I like 'em both but I might choose this one because dreamy memories have way fewer sharp points and turns...

Well I'll tell you what. This picture is so intriguing, I can't stop looking at it. I think its the combination of the Orton, and the angle that does it. To me, it feels like I am right there....and walking down the tracks...or maybe even crawling down them. I put this on my desktop and it looks fantastic. I love it.

I think you did a great job on the Orton GBRx3. It seems to get stronger in the background which really gives it that dreamy effect. The photo looks a little tilted to me and makes me feel like the train is about to tip over.

I like them both, but on different planes. lol

I think there is a time and place for Orton, which is over used, in my opinion. Is this the place for it? A dreamy railway line? The picture looks tilted, and is not level which makes it more drunk than dreamy. I always feel that old industrial scenes look better with a rougher treatment, like a high ISO, grain and contrast. However, this is one of the better Orton effects I have seen, it is not exaggerated like most so stick with it, but use on more natural scenes. The low angle nicely exaggerates the perspective and I like the tree framing.

Nice work. I have not yet been able to get that effect to work properly for me even with Nigel's recipe. Nice work.

An excellent effect and good advice from Les. I looked at the original and love the composition and the subject. The sky was interesting and it was a good shot. But there was something a bit lackluster I couldn't pinpoint. Maybe it was just too dark. Anyway, I like what you've done here and the slight skewed horizon line makes it really surrealistic. It has great movement. anne :-)

I've been absent from my friends at Caedes for awhile. Have been busy shooting, writing, learning, and mostly being humbled. I'm back and I look forward to viewing and sharing again. Blessings, anne :-)

Very nice picture, I like the effect you have used on this one, it makes it seem fantasy like! And a good idea with the train tracks, great job!:)

Fabulous the way the tracks lead your eyes up to that dramtic sky. Beautiful work Rich and this would be a wonderful 1000 piece puzzle.
