A very foggy afternoon along Milwaukee's shoreline. The path and these benches sit atop a bluff which overlooks Veterans Park, and Lake Michigan. Honest comment and critique please. PS Thanx to Lauren for inspiring this shot with a comment she left on a different post!

Personally I really like the way the benches kind of lead your eye deeper into the park, both urging you along the path or just inviting you to comfotably sit and enjoy the day awhile.... on nicer, warmer days of course. The fog is still light enough and almost snowy looking that it doesn'y have the dark mysterious feel most fogs have, rather you get the feel that something magical might happen deep in that fog tonight..... if only you believe. Nice shot Rich, full of emotion & possibilities on a November evening. ;-)

Three more benches and you could have a Supreme Court Justice meeting GBRx3. I think they would overrule any objections I would make on this shot, so I will say I like the look.
Here's looking at you kid.

I love fog pictures and this one is foggy... misty, mysterious, like there's magic afoot. Both the path and the benches lead me into the mystery. Only one thing: it seems somewhat blurred, though that may be what you intended. Otherwise... I like!

What a shot. The B&W suits this one perfectly. I like the angle that you shot from down the sidewalk. Looks very erie and moody.

Lol. Leave it to Jimbob! Only we oldie, but goodies would remember Rod Serling! A well composed image, Rich, and foggy images always leave room for the imagination which is what makes them moody.

Great shot Rich. Thanks for sharing. This is great use of the fog. We got it in Minnesota as well. Superb choice on the b/w as well.

A wonderful atmospheric scene. I like how you retained the depth of the path through the thick fog. Very nicely captured Rich.

This is brilliant, i love it. I spent a good few minutes trying to figure out if it is black and white or not. If not, try it as it may add something but i dont know. Its pretty good as it is. Gorgeous composition. I can almost hear the silence!!!

Well now...it seems you have in fact been doing something other than partying all week afterall, lol...I have a fondness for this type of shot...something about the mystery, the silence, the aloneness it evokes...an atmosphere I personally relish at times...and the empty benches and downward slope to 'who knows where' add to the mood and appeal...not always easy to capture but you've done an excellent job, Rich...two thumbs up for this one.

Really a nice compositon, Rich.

Liking the lines that you captured within frame. The path(s) themselves, and then the great lead-in assist from that of the park benches.

Black or white? Well, turns out it is indeed grayscale, at least according to my image editing software.

And on that note, 'cause I like to play around with good images ... downloaded yours here and found that by adding some additional colour toning ... an assist towards accentuating the landscape and bringing a tad more attention to that of the path (personal preference, no slight intended) resulted.

The thoughts above have their roots with these tutorials on B & W conversions. In particular, the Gorman Method.

For future consideration, as well:

Taking pictures in fog ... from Digital Photo Review. Just click 'next' below the posting(s) to go the next response.

From the above first posting to that discussion thread, and I quote;

"Personally I would play around with manual mode by dialing in that aperture and then playing with the shutter speed looking for something that adds drama to the scene. It is something you will have to experiment with as conditions will change."

Think that would be my only caveat here.

This is very good, Rich. The compositional strength comes to the forefront in my humble opinion.

A fine shot, and but of course ... thank you for sharing this one with us. Well ... done. :o)

Living on the Pacific Coast we get lots of foggy days. I am still trying to get something half as good as what you've been able to capture. I like it a lot. I love the composition and the pathway leading into the fog...and the benches to catch your breath and steel your nerve before walking into the fog. Love it.
