It was a good Memorial Day. Early in the morning I was a part of the Parade through Downtown, an Honor Gaurd of 100 Harleys, split in half led and tailed the parade. Then I picked up my 8 year old Nephew Mark and took him to Wisconsin Memorial Park, a cemetary that celebrates Memorial Day by putting up over 1,000 full size flags. We walked around a lot, and talked about Memorial Day, what it means, why it is important. I showed him where my Grandfather, a WWII Navy Veteran is buried, and we talked about my son Josh who is serving his second tour in Afghanastan. It was a quiet reflective day for the both of us. We both took a lot shots, but the size of the crowds made it difficult to get a clean shot. I was hoping to get back at sunset, but the clouds and the rain had moved in by that time. I think that Mark actually came up with the shot of the day. I hope you enjoyed your day as much as I enjoyed mine.

You did well in capturing this minus the crowds you mentioned and I see from the flags that there may have been some breeze but don't detect any blur...good for you in taking Mark and talking about the importance of the day and those who have and are serving their country in this way...it's important for young people to know and carry on the tradition...a colorful and meaningful shot.

Excellent shot and narrative GBR. I think it is cool you share your memories with Mark. He will forever be grateful. I like how the flags are whipping in the wind. Sometimes it sounds like the clicking of heels snapping to attention. Good post.

A beautiful dedication Rich. I like how you got the flags in a straight line ... give the scene more depth. Nicely done.

This is a great shot to. I appreciate you teaching your nephew the true meaning of this day and I appreciate your sons service. I pray for him and the rest of the great men and women serving not only our country but the world as well.

A lot of flags and a lot of flowers amidst the green of the lawn and trees... I'm glad you had a great day, and especially since you could share it with Mark.

Ahh ... the vagaries of the VB show up once again.

Good composition, Rich.

As you made good use of the 'lines' present in the setting and then that of the repetitive shapes of the flags within frame.

Caveats?

Perhaps, a slight ... slight, mind you ... rotation clockwise, to balance out the gentle slope of the horizon that I perceive.

And you did well, on the technical fronts. Where shutter speed, exposure et al are concerned ... capturing the flags in motion and 'freezing' them in particular.

A good shot and a wonderful tribute.

And but of course, thanks for sharing this one with us. :o)
