Off hand I would say coal powers the power plant Rob. I like shots that show the industrial side of a country. Excellent post. "Got the stacks blowin' fire and the smoke's blowing black as coal" is a line from what song. ?
Rob....I'm starting to get a feeling of what might be a possible cause of some of those gray days in Rotterdam. Yikes!! This is an excellent industrial shot. Your manipulation is quite dramatic. This shot is very intense. Wonderful composition, otherworldly colors and just a fabulous tonal quality to the posting. Except for a few gray green spots, 95% of this shot could be graytoned; but the colors in the foreground really accentuate the dismal view of mankind destroying his home planet.
What I would call a very good industrial photograph. For an artistic version could I suggest a crop? The steam coming out of those lower stacks is very unique and they would make an excellent central subject. If you were to try a crop, horizontally on the bottom just above the lower portion of the building below the left tall stack; on top about halfway between the top of the left tall stack and the top of your image; on the left, in to the left edge of the building on the far left bottom that is a light gray with a dark gray top; and on the right in to the left edge of the left corner of the structure on the far right. Is that totally confusing? I pulled a copy and tried it myself. It looks like something very different but that's probably because I usually find myself looking for the image within the image. Cropping is a lot of fun to play around with. Just a thought. 8D
