I feel much safer looking at this one Rob. It does look more inviting. Is this a trap? :)
I do like it better and you have accomplished your goad.

The depth of field is very good and the detail is spot on my friend.Plus it good how you have the main illumination on the right and darker on the lift it gives a nice balance to the photo. The only down side is you could have used a straightening tool to tilt the shot over to the lift. But saying that very nice.

The lighting in this one gives a feel of desertion.

Hi, Rob....

This version is far superior to the original. "Ally" seemed oversaturated to me. Not sure where I was when you posted it since I made no comment. I apologize for falling behind and actually skipping some comments. After my accident and two days of filling out reports and spending days on the telephone, I had 62 comments to write. I slowly whittled it down under 35 and was up over 50 the next day. My comments really started to suck; so I just gave up and checked the box on about 40 shots. Now I don't feel rushed and can scold or compliment you as needed.

Like I said, this shot is a much better version. The detail work is brilliant. Love those bricks and all of that external electrical work especially where the electrical line leaves the conduit and is exposed to the elements. I'm not sure that this structure would meet code requirements in California since most brick buildings require a seismic retrofit. Good thing you don't have earthquakes.

I'm somewhat concerned about that lone brick lying where the alley meets the end of the sidewalk. Is this building crumbling before our eyes? I love the drab colors in the sky and the filthy grime on the buildings caused possibly by the emissions from the coal fired electrical plants that you've been posting. You are the master of the dark underbelly of Rotterdam. The city fathers and the chamber of commerce probably don't know about you or Caedes or I think they would have you shot for portraying their city as it really exists.

One thing you should look into is a free download called ShiftN. It takes parallel lines and makes them parallel. In your image the wide angle of the camera makes the building on the left look like it's leaning right and the building on the right look like it's leaning left. ShiftN is stand alone software that simply makes everything look like it should. If you look at this shot, you can see that I forgot to use ShiftN.

Roger

P.S. Thanks for the "fave" on my rock vs. tree shot.

Rob - I'll continue adding to the unanimity of opinion on this image versus the earlier version. Thad

So this is where you get your spare train parts from the junk metal dealer in the back.
A nice alternate version of your Ally photo. Much cleaner and clearer as noted. Good textures and details in the photo, Rob. Nice depth in the shot as well.
