Operation Manna yesterday we had the commemoration (I live near the dyke were the ceremony took place) of the food droppings on May the 2 1945 on Rotterdam. This to honour all that died in battle or from starvation. A fly by of a Lancaster and Spitfire (you will have to look for the Spitfire). On a personnel note I'm a born Canadian lived in Calgary till I was 16 years lived for 45 years in Rotterdam that was freed by Canadian soldiers and live about 700 yards from the monument to commemorate the end of the war makes you wonder.

Very interesting photography I love the colour tones in this photo and how you have the spectators looking up to the sky to see the bomber approaching and the trees make the compstion perfect Rob.Olus thank you for the history link behind this scene.

I imagine capturing this image was a stirring and somewhat emotional experience...

An airplane skims over the land
The low country called Holland
Country of hunger, persecution, and sorrow
In the streets people gaze at the sky
An airplane circles around
The pilots drop their food!
People cry, people cheer to the skies
Food, food, food!

Incredibly moving. Thanks for sharing a part of history of which I was unaware.

A lovely tribute and captured in this photo exceptionally well Rob. I love that You can see the people on the ground at attention as the flyovers (I can see both planes in full view) take place. Great presentation.
