Now, that was one major "restoration" done there Rob. Not just you giving it color, you gave it back its form and content.

Early graffiti? I used to do this in my notebooks, using a high school teacher or two as starting points. I'm truly amazed you were able to clean this up... in my career I had to fix or clean hundreds of historic photos but none were ever this far gone. It had to have been a personal observation on the man; they even wrote his name up the left side.

Rob, although I suppose that Thomas C. Tullock wasn't 'flipped', see that you haven't only colorized the original image in a perfect way, but has edited and flipped it as well, enabling us to read the scratched additions. Think however that Mr. Tullock wasn't that popular to the person who did this, ☺ .
Great job (per usual), my friend. Kudos again!

Poor Mr Tullock - someone did not like him much !
He actually has a very peasant face and as always our colouring is perfect.

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

Geez, Rob, this isn't restoration; it's a forensic masterpiece!

I don't know if you used a multi-spectrum tool to "see" underneath the ink, could make out more detail than appears here, or just outright recreated a face and surroundings through your own artistic skill? But regardless, you did an incredible job!!

Do you submit your restorations back to the Library of Congress?

Incredible restoration, very well done considering the original piece. It appears that the person that "edited" the photo enjoyed the results. Your version is remarkable.
