He delivered in the infamous "Red Light District." I suspect they need the drugs for the diseases they contacted while performing their duties/jobs or whatever you choose to call them. I suspect he could tell a story or two.
He is dressed good and has quite the hat. Good colorization Rob.

Rob - Lewis Wikes Hine's photos are iconic. You have done them great justice in your colorizing series. I find it interesting that the descriptor included the young boys trips to the red light district each day as part of is work.

If I could tell the story in words, I wouldn't need to lug around a camera. ~Lewis Hine The Earth without art is just 'eh'.

Ah, yes, the new "Safety" bicycle, so named because they were intended to be much safer to use than the old penny-farthing, the well-known bike that utilized a front wheel so large that many people had a hard time even getting on the dang-blasted thing. Whipper-snappers! The safety also introduced the joy of cycling to a new, large audience... women (scroll down through this linked article to find some great images of women using and loving the safety bike, throughout the years). I notice that Howard here is wearing "knickers", short pants gathered below the knee, popular in the U.S. from the 1860s until the 1930s. Whether he understood they kept him safe from long pants getting caught in his bike chain, and that someday there would be a whole industry based on that concept, is anybody's guess.

Again you have improved on the original making the boy seem so real.
13 years old - a life so different to today's 13 year olds.

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust
