Interesting pose she has. It is like she is riding the chair side saddle. Super colorization once again.

Another excellent colorization, Rob. Interestingly, in a more contemporary photo, we'd critique the work of Mr. Bell for having the edge of another piece of furniture on the left edge of the image, expecting that he'd have eliminated it in Photoshop.

For better or worse, many people look at black and white images and promptly forget them. Or dismiss them as old news, a historical curiosity. But add color and we start to pay attention again, the image becomes more immediate and alive. And even though we know innately what's going on, we're still creatures that respond to color and contrast. So even though by current standards the picture is painfully desaturated, there's life back in old Miss Simpson. If only she could tell us why she chose that awful hairdo. It looks like there's a Pomeranian sleeping on her head.

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

Russ is right in that many people dismiss historic black & white photos out of hand, the same way they dismiss old movies and, in fact anything old. As someone who worked with historic photos for well over 30 years, I know how much they're missing. Looking close at these old images can tell us so much about these people and how they lived their lives. Remember, when these photos were taken, box cameras and glass negatives were the height of technology... 25 years from now, people being born in 2018 will look at our images and giggle about how trite and old they are, the quality nowhere near what they are enjoying. It's human nature tied to technological advances.
