The picture tells the story, even without the view of the peoples faces..

I'm thinking the cat was not very romantic Rob. The photographer captured an iconic pose and you did him justice with your colorization.

Purr-fectly done my friend, the cat did not apparently want to be in the middle of things. :) tigs=^..^=

In my mind I would like to think this is an Australian soldier returned from the war - a much happier scenario.
You brought them to life :)

I hope he did return to his girl and Bobby.
Sam Hood was a great photographer. There is an interesting account of him here

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

Gosh, it almost gives me the impression that you were there at the time the photo was taken. You have surely grasped the theme, the essence of the capture, and the colors are incredibly well chosen. Really like the composition, thanks so much for sharing these gems with us. Favorite.

I think the cat was showing its affection for the woman and letting her know it was time for petting, not smooching. The clothing styles of the woman's dress and shoes and the uniform immediately signalled WWII-era to me, before reading your post, and the pockets on the blouse and the type of insect-blocking leggings on the top of the boot signalled that they belonged to an Australian or New Zealand trooper. I'm an unofficial WWII historian, having studied it for many years (my father was a young U.S. Marine who spent some of his nights as a forward observer on places like Saipan, crawling about to determine Japanese positions, then crawling back to let arty and the infantry know their whereabouts... no wonder he came back home nervous).
