Judging from the light coming through the windows, I would surmise this was taken on the day shift. He seems disinterested in everything (work & camera). Just surviving and trying to get through another day. It seems the life has been drained from his young body. Very poignant photo. Good colorization Rob.

I agree with Tick - he looks so incredibly worn out.
The subtle coloring is just enouth to isolate him from his bleak surroundings..

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

I agree he looks pooped but not about his interest... the camera here is getting all of his attention. I'm guessing he's a seasoned worker since I see no cuts, scars, or burns on his arms or hands. He and his fellows are holding onto bellows pipes, which would bring them into proximity to the fire. Plus, this being a very old and crude glass factory, there was bound to plenty of broken glass (I see some on the floor here), none of which this boy has allowed to hit or harm him. There's nothing but the soot on his face and an exhausted expression. When kids today whine (not all kids, but still too many) about having to work to make spending money, asking the ubiquitous question, "Do you want fries with that?", I just shake my head. They have no idea.

Again you work really brings these captures to life - on MSN today there was a video on why they didn't smile - very interesting.
