Rob,I see that this welder is wearing protective wear around his right arm, because the construction of ships by using the welding technique is often a very hard and difficult job. because he often has to reach the most difficult corners on his belly with the help of an supporting arm to carry out his welding work. Not a pleasant job, also because of the welding fumes that arise. An ice cream from time to time is certainly not a luxury. Apparently he enjoys it. Whether that is really the case, or because it is because of your colorization work, one may guess, ☺ .
Excellent colorization work, per usual!

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

Welders then and now would wear heavy aprons. I know because I went to college for it and the "teacher" (it was a summer class and it was his hobby, Oy!) neglected to have the class wear protective gear like this fellow is wearing, resulting in a problem that is different than what you might expect--spark burns--but rather ultraviolet poisoning from the light and radiation given off by arc welding. We figured it out at lunch a couple days later when we could see the effects on the others in our class. One guy's neck was starting to turn purple and bubble in the same "V" shape as the neck opening in his shirt (and my arms were getting an odd sunburn: like a doof I wore a short-sleeved shirt for two days). To protect this guy's arms he wears the sleeve, and the sleeve for the other arm he has taken off (to facilitate the consumption of the ice cream) and has draped it over the hose in the background. The bill of his cap isn't facing backwards because he's planning to look "cool" and change his occupation to rapper in 50 years, but that it's simply easier to wear his face shield this way and continue wearing his cap as protection, just in case an errant spark flies up and over the mask, landing on top of his head. Welding sparks are very hot and burn sharply, take my word for it.
