Dang G! That is one amazing butterfly. The furry little critter just jumps out at me. In fact, the detail in this shot is so tight, that he looks a little scarey, doesn't he? I mean check out those eyes! This is a must-see in full-screen mode. What did you have to do to get that close - offer him tickets to the superbowl?
I used a Canon Rebel (EOS-300D) and the lense from the kit. This was taken at about the minimum distance for that lense. I also cropped it in photoshop a bit, (but not too much, as you can see the quality is still good). I actually meant to upload another shot (one that showed the entire butterfly), but this one is ok, I guess.
This is a very good one. No way to get that close and still have the entire critter is focus, but you got the right parts very sharp...near wing and head. Excellent balance in the composition as well. Not like you have forever to set up a shot with these guys, they rarely stay in one place for long.
For all the reasons stated by the terrific photographers ahead of me here and my little extra appreciation of the soft yellow contrast with the white. Very nice.
