The eyes are front and center and well-focused. Most definitely commanding attention and interest.
If pressed to choose between your photo here and it's previous incarnation on site, would pick this one.
And to that end, I find it interesting the impact that our learned viewing habits instill within us when perceiving things (reading, is the best example.. insofar as the left to right stuff goes).

Right, in English and this time with a couple more sips of coffee under my belt..
Compositionally, and with respect to the spider's orientation in frame.. most pleasing to the eye. (Like the deeper, richer colour palette as well.)
And on that note, a hug would not be out of the question.
This is a great close up . Nice focus and detail. However I am going to pass on the hug . Matter of fact I backed away from my computer when I enlarged this . Great shot.
I'm gonna pass on that hug from this little fellow:) The clarity and details are superb. Now that I have seen a spider up close and personal, I'm even more terrified lol:) Kudos to you Russ on another excellent post!
I just think of them, and all other insects, as little eating machines. Each adapted to its niche in size and design. That attitude makes it a lot easier to get right in their faces. This one was very skittish about that too.
I'll pass on that hug too, but I find insects and spiders to be most fascinating and really not aggressive at all...except for that katydid that time, lol. -Christie
