Side view of an open Borage blossom at about 1X. Bees love this flower, but I wanted to show how uninviting it was to other creatures. The spines are very formidable looking at this scale and had me wondering if they were actually for the plant's protection or to keep parasites off that might prey on the bees when they come to feed. Otherwise it's not a very photogenic plant and this an awkward shot to say the least.

I don't believe I have ever seen one of these. Great capture.

I've never seen a Borage before and to see it in such detail. Cool capture.

Thank you for all the generous comments. The best thing I can say about the shot is that it's odd. Sometimes odd is good enough. I'll revisit this plant for an angle that emphasizes the spines more, they're really impressive as a deterrent to anything that isn't a pollinator.

To anyone who's interested, I have two pictures posted of this plant shot at a lower magnification. The over the top colors in 'Last Call' were from using the camera jpeg set to 'Vivid'. I only shoot RAW now too.
