A lucky shot of a honeybee cruising above a California Poppy, May 2012. Taken with a Canon 100mm macro lens & a ring flash. Retrieved from the archives for the macro contest.
My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust
Thank you very much Lyn. I'm happy you liked the shot.
The ring flash will only sync to 1/250 sec & it would take about 1/2000 sec to fully stop the wings in flight. Stopping the bee's forward motion was more important though & the relatively slow shutter speed seems to have been enough for that.
I like your take on this, with the bee in mid-air and the whir of its wings just visible... I actually prefer the suggestion of movement in this image over the bee caught in total stop-action... Great one for the contest! mary
Thank you both for the nice comments. It was one of those shots that didn't seem good enough to bother sharing, but was cool from an 'I can't believe that worked' feeling. Sometimes you just fall right into the clover.
You have captured the bee so well with the wings suggesting movement. Nice composition also.
Best of luck in the contest
