Taken at the local arboretum, near the end of March. The lens was the Canon 70-350L, with a bit of fill light added from a ring flash.

Thank you, everyone. It's nice to be appreciated by such talented people.

Some shooters might raise their eyebrows at using a short range ring flash on that zoom. And it does add quite a bit of bulk to what is already a pretty beefy lens. But at close range, when taking shots in deep shadow, or strongly uneven light, the great clarity of the lens really shines through with the ring flash. It's a useful tool that I'm surprised isn't used more often, and on a wider variety of lenses. It's not just a macrophotography light, but a great portrait light too.
