A one inch wide blossom from one of my Red Manzano pepper plants. Shot at about 1.5X with the Canon MP-E65 macro lens and a ring flash. Called Rocoto in South America, the peppers often look like little apples, which is manzano in Spanish. The peppers are hot, but usually less than habanero's. I've grown the three types: The yellow, which is viney and takes well to a trellis. The orange, which is bushy, and to me, the most beautiful. And the red, also somewhat vine-like and by far the best producer of the three. Leaves and branches are covered with a fine hair that gives the appearance of animal pelt. They're truly unique and gorgeous plants. Highly recommended for pepper growers, or anyone who wants a bit of the jungle in their yard. Plant them for the long term, they can live 15 years or more and become huge - 10 feet high and double that in width.
Also I have learned a lot about this Manzano ! I had heard of them but did not know the word meant 'little apple' :)
