A one inch wide blossom from one of my Red Manzano pepper plants. Shot at about 1.5X with the Canon MP-E65 macro lens and a ring flash. Called Rocoto in South America, the peppers often look like little apples, which is manzano in Spanish. The peppers are hot, but usually less than habanero's. I've grown the three types: The yellow, which is viney and takes well to a trellis. The orange, which is bushy, and to me, the most beautiful. And the red, also somewhat vine-like and by far the best producer of the three. Leaves and branches are covered with a fine hair that gives the appearance of animal pelt. They're truly unique and gorgeous plants. Highly recommended for pepper growers, or anyone who wants a bit of the jungle in their yard. Plant them for the long term, they can live 15 years or more and become huge - 10 feet high and double that in width.

Its is a fine shot especially considering the smallness of this blossom. Nice work.
Also I have learned a lot about this Manzano ! I had heard of them but did not know the word meant 'little apple' :)

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

A flower full of character... there's something quite aggressive about the curve of its petals, so it's not surprising it belongs to a pepper plant! Nice to see you posting again. :-)

Thanks for the nice reviews. I've started harvesting off my largest plant now, and some of the pods are the size of small apples. They're like a hot bell pepper, thick walled and crunchy. They would make a nice salsa, not as spicy as a habanero-based dip. I am growing Red Savina peppers though, which are a habanero hybrid, hotter than the commercial orange ones, but with a great smokey taste. I think any of the Manzano varieties would grow well in the UK, because they're more cold tolerant than standard peppers. I'm saving the seeds from my largest red pods, so if anyone wants to give them a try, let me know.
