The South Bend fish ladder, built in 1987, is the fourth in a series of fish ladders built on the St. Joseph River to allow trout and salmon to migrate 55 miles from Lake Michigan to this point. It is part of a cooperative fish management project between teh States of Michigan and Indiana to provide passage for these fish up the St. Joseph River. Funds to build this ladder were provided by the State of Indiana and by the Anadramous Fish Gran Program administered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

This is the first time I have ever seen anything like this Sandy. Very interesting to learn plus see.I'm so glad you posted this and I'm sure there are others who will enjoy seeing this also. So glad to see the state of Indiana aids in their migration so they can survive.

It's quite a strange structure isn't it. I think it comes up really nice in this photo too, an interesting subject with all the concrete shapes and flowing water. description is very good too.

Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are Real you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand. ~Margery Williams The Velveteen Rabbit~
