An exposure adjustment would have accomplished the same thing.. simply deepening colours and contrasts.. as opposed to 'fixing' things in Photoshop after the fact, for example, and as outlined in the above linked tutorial.
(I simply like the results of the technique/tutorial. So.. six of one, half dozen of another.)

What particularly caught my own eye were a couple of things:
One; square composition.
Not.. easy, to pull off.
Colours and textures within frame.
It's an intriguing photo.. you get lost in the textures, patterns and then find 'someone' looking back at you.
Caveats?
