I've seen some lovely entries for the Abstract contest. Many are pictures of nature or of objects whose lines are clear and whose colors are few and mainly solid. I wondered if a less well-organized original picture could be turned into an abstract by clarifying the lines and reducing it to panels of color. This is my attempt in converting such a picture. Once I simplified the lines and colors, it seemed evocative (to me) of sets of independent rhythm. I thought of roofers nailing in shingles (each one in his own tempo), or of several horses trotting on hard ground. I left this picture alone for several days and then came back to it. This time I saw an attempt to put order among different items of information... such as an early organization a research paper from a variety of notes, or a first pass at planning priorities on a long and complicated project. Or maybe it is something as simple as what to cook for dinner! :) I hope you can find your own interpretation in this. Thanks for coming here to take a look.

Stunning piece of work, love the simple colours and to me it is like looking in to the old curiosity shop.

Very cool manipulation pic of what I believe our brains might look like. (smile) Mine would be more fragmented, but what a neat picture you have created! Good luck in the contest!

I too enjoy the title and your interpretation of the possibilities. Reminds me of a graphic novel. Implied but not clear... I'm on the fence about the oval cut out. Maybe if it were a different color? : )

I too like the graphic novel (what we old fogies used to call comic books :p) look. Good color contrast and shape distribution.

I too am unsure about the whole oval in a frame thing. For me, though, it's not a question of aesthetic. To me, the frame re-converts this back to a "scene", with narrative properties. Perhaps to truly make this abstract, frameless might've been a bit more effective.

In college I experimented with reproducing music (in watercolor) by breaking the notes into columns and separating the columns in tenor, baritone, and bass, giving each a different hue of similar colors. The result looked a lot like this except it was much more structured. The haphazard character of your image, Sharon, certainly lends itself to abstract, and the bold colors and sharp edges remind me of reduction silk screening. Very artistic of you, my dear, but if this could be seen as a representation of a shingling job, these guys must have been drunk and I wouldn't want them on my roof. :D A very nice interpretation for the contest and the best of luck to you.

I have no idea how you achieved this effect, but I love it! I find myself drawn to the various shapes and unusual colour tones and shadings, and have long given up on trying to id what each item is...lol So very original and superbly executed! I also like your choice of framing! Best of luck in the contest, Sharon! Faved.
