A native of New Zealand that paid us a visit today, Quick Facts •The weta is only found in New Zealand and is so old it has outlived the dinosaurs. * Weta is the name given to about 70 insect species endemic to New Zealand. There are many similar species around the world, though most are in the southern hemisphere. The name comes from the Māori word 'wētā' and is the same in the plural (like 'sheep'). The Māori word for the Giant Weta is 'wētā punga' (lumpy or jointed weta).

Seems to be wearing a hat with a feather and looks really gooey and mean. LOL I like the reddish brown color on the pale blue. Nice

Good shot John!
They really are quite fearsome looking aren't they. This looks quite a large specimen.

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . I've never seen one before. Their nothing 'like sheep' but a good faceshot nonetheless.
