Another one, where I arrived before the fire department. This tanker had jackknifed, on the 401, East of Windsor. Fortunately, there was little traffic, and no injuries, but it was quite a spectacular fire.
excellent photo journalism style image - lots of movement and drama. the intensity of the scene more than compensates for some of slight techincal drawbacks with the piece. well done.
Hi Doug, I don't recall this. When did this take place? You said you got there before fire department so you must have seen the driver. You also say there was no injuries so assume driver must have got clear before it ignited. Very good photojounalism... tell me did this photo appear in The Windsor Star?
Wow Doug, glad you were not there a minute sooner or you may have had melted camera...among other things....whew that was close! Excellent capture and the B&W is perfect for this, High marks my friend!
HOLY MOLY what a great photo you have captured here. I would have thought this was from the middle-east ( no offense to anyone ) after a suicide bombing, but I glad to hear that no-one was hurt in the accident. Im glad you did it in black and white as I dont think a coloured version would have the same impact as this on does. Thank you for sharing this image with us and i have added it to my fav's folder and computer so i can use it in my screen saver, I hjope you don't mind. I also hope to see more of your work soon.
Cheers
The emotions, the tears, of wasted years, wash over me like a cold wind out of the north. I tremble and shake, with each breath i take, and there's no one around me that cares. Dwight.
Superb reportage Doug, if you hadn't posted where it was taken I'd have marked it down as an image from one of the Gulf wars. The smoke in the background is great, but I really love how you cropped the remains of the tanker; It really hints at some bigger destruction off to the right of the frame. Fantastic stuff.
Found this in the voting booth and it pulled me right out.
Excellent shot, great contrast, every detail is sharp and clear, any lighter and it would have taken away from the gravity of it, any darker and it would have lost the "here & now" of it. Love the "in your face" composition.
Great vantage point from behind the twisted metal. Like Morat above, I too was struck by the thought of the well fires in the gulf. The smoke is so thick and rolling and fills the frame, it works beautifully in B/W.
