He seems to have found some minor sense of ease, with me, as long as I make my moves, slowly. I think he may have lost much of his breast feathers,in whatever happened. There is a clothesline, with shopping bags attached, usually strung across, in front of the windows, and it was all piled, near where I found him. I'll keep you updated on his progress. I couldn't leave him out there, as we have a nasty varmit, called a "Fisher", who preys on chickens, cats, and rabbits, and doesn't just kill for food. One, killed an entire flock of chickens, a while back, and they were inside a chicken house.

Great work, Doug. I'm no expert with raptors like this but to me he looks like he is still not fledged the nest and able to fly. He looks like he is just coming into his flight (adult) plummage. Is it possible that there is a nest close where you found him? He may have fallen. If you keep him, you may have him for a while yet and need to take special steps to fledge him. Maybe the Ontario Dept of Natural Resources could offer some advice. Great photos, by the way. Cheers! -Dave

Poor little thing. I think it is great that you have taken the fatherly roll for this baby rapture. This is a nice image of it and I would like to see another close to the same once it starts to get the feathers fully back. Thank Daddy...........hehe

Oh my, what a cutie this baby hawk is......and you are his personal angel. What a great capture. He may just hang around you and let you take care of him for awhile and you can keep taking pictures and posting them so we can watch him grow. This is a first for me....a baby hawk. Do you know what kind of hawk it is Doug? Keep up the good work my friend ;~)

I won’t call this a beautiful photo but it is very interesting. I think what your doing is great. I rescued a Magpie under similar circumstances once. He left after a six-week convalescence. He would bring the missus and the new kids to visit every year for a long time after that.
