Hawkeye Update .... I contacted a local Avian Research Facility this morning, and everything I did was wrong. When it comes to birds, if they're nor injured, no one can help them but their parents. Regardless of how well meaning you are, it's decidedly detrimental to remove them from where you found them, so I immediately took him back to the exact same spot. They suggested I monitor the site, but no more than that. I certainly had no idea, just how critical, moving them can be. They made an excellent case for it, and have been handling birds for over 30 years. So, anyone else out there, that thinks they're doing them a favour, be aware that you're depriving them of their basic education for survival. Here endeth the lesson for today. Glad you enjoyed the pictures. I'll continue to check on him, from a distance, but from what I saw this morning, he'll be flying soon, with better tutors.

Good shot Doug, did you use a bit of fill in flash ? just a shame it's left eye is black, a bit of flash would have evened it up....( I think ), good photo though, hard to get a wildlife shot, unless you stuff them first....giggle......
Regards,
Mark.

Doug ..... A wonderful shot of this cutie. I am sure he / she will do fine ..... nature does take care of it's own. I would have done the very same for a helpless baby bird. Thanks for sharing this story & little Hawkeye with everyone.

D'oh! He was lucky to have you. I do understand their point. You could have just kept him as a pet. I can see you out and about taking pictures with a grown hawk on your shoulder. The Photographic Pirate!!

Such an adorable creation he is...You can monitor him and if you see that he is in trouble, then perhaps he was just meant to be your little buddy, bring him home and raise him as your own. You wouldn't be the first in the world to raise wild animals, but he would need to have a large caged area, because once they lose that wild nature, they become endangered? But that wouldn't be so bad would it? Or could you have his wings clipped so he couldn't fly? unless that is cruel? Not sure what to do here but if he isn't going to make it on his own, that would in my opinion be the best thing to do????
Good luck, keep us posted on how this progresses. This is a fantastic shot!

Now you've got me wondering about this mysterious preadator wandering around. Were you able to put him Up high somewhere or did the parents move him somewhere more hidden?

Doug, you are obviously a kind-hearted fellow, and how you've shown meekness and humility, too, being so willing to learn from the well-intentioned mistake, and to warn the rest of us. Kindness needs to be united to wisdom. I've always been told God blesses humility greatly.

Thank you for everything, including your rescue effort and the wonderful photos, all of which are saved on my computer.
