Hard to believe, but 50 odd years ago, Canada, the second largest Country on the globe, with a population of little over ten million, had the 4th largest Armed Forces in the world. These are F-86 Sabre jets, then in use by the U.S. and Canada, and one of the earliest jet fighters. The Golden Hawks were our aerobatic team, and performed throughout the world, with teams from the U.S., France, and Britain.

Yes, here in Holland we flew them to, matter of fact, there is still one in the military aircraft museum, only 10 km from where i live.
You just have to love this early jet fighter, it just looks like the next step, after the piston engine driven P 51 Mustang.

Great wallpaper, thanks for sharing it here at caedes !

Nice shot Doug! I like the symmetry of the squadron and the complementing colours of the flight apron and sky. I'm a little less sure about the position of the shot on the black background, as it results in both the picture itself and the main subject within the picture all being concentrated towards the top left. But maybe this is just a matter of individual taste.

A great capture Doug. A nice & clear image and perfect placement. I have been to air shows before & what these fighter jets can do in the air is quite amazing. Thanks for the history also .... it is very interesting.

The U.S.A flew this jet from their basis Soesterberg in Holland, the Dutch flew this jet themselves to, the last one is stored inside of the museum.

Great post, Doug. I saw the Golden Hawks when I was young, at Halifax I think. It is odd that you post this shot today, because we just took a drive in the country, ended up in Brockville, and there is a Sabre on a steel pedestel along the waterfront there. I hadn't see one in 30 years, then 2 direct hits in one day. I haven't downloaded my shot of today's Sabre, will post if it's worthy. Cheers! - Dave.

Great picture Doug. I like the presentation too - gives plenty of room for desktop icons without detracting from the image.
