Just preparing to shoot the rock formation when the eagle appeared. Not even time to zoom in tighter before it was gone. The Rocks.... more of Joshua Tree, N.P. in Southern California.
Another beauty, Doug. Sorry - but there's not much to critique. Am I supposed to say that the sky is too blue or that the rocks are too rocky? Very good composition as always. My bin is nearly empty but I have a similar shot without the eagle; so at least I'll have something to post.
Photographing the eagle in that exact spot is a great capture but, oh my, what mysteries you've caught in the rocks too! In the foreground, left of center, the rock is not only sliced with grooves but also wrapped with some curious ridges. Parts of the rock are rough surfaced in strange contrast to adjacent parts looking sandblasted smooth. Over on the left I wonder if you captured the fossil of a Pterodactyl. And just above it - is that sky-gazer Homer Simpson?
At first glance I thought some shadows might be too dark but in fact, by repeating the silhouette of the eagle, they strengthen its presence. Nicely done.
