Another image captured in the alleys of downtown Detroit. (1955) This leaf is exactly the way I found it, and lying on wooden bricks in an alley surrounded by skyscrapers. It's probably the only reason I discovered I was walking on very old, very hard wood. Also, the only time of day that any amount of light reached ground level.

The leaf does look lonely ... I like how you caught it's shadow plus I've never seen wooden bricks before. Love the grainy textures & patterns of the wood. Very well done in B & W too, Doug.

First off, for those of us who, like me, are unfamiliar with wooden bricks, the patterns in this photo are quite interesting and receive positive emphasis in black and white. Also, the strong shadow of the leaf makes it stand out well from its background. It's a very effective portrayal of melancholy. Now please make the next one a comedy to cheer us up. :-)

Wooden Bricks? I've never heard of them, but I'm impressed with them in this photo. I work with wood and wonder what keeps them from splitting being end grain must be exposed to moisture on a constant basis. Enough of my ramblings. Nice photo Doug. I really like the patterns those bricks make and the the focal of the leaf.
