Just stepped out on the balcony to take a shot of the Heron fishing from my dock, and forgot to close the door behind me. Soon as Blue appeared beside me, he had to bark his hello's, which the Heron doesn't understand. Made for an interesting"Walking on Water" shot, though.

Perfect timing, Doug ... with credit given to Blue as well. I like how the wing tips are grazing the surface of the water. The beautiful blue water adds for a nice contrast. Very well captured.

I agree with dankia, I saw some at a lake here in Missouri a few days ago, waiting for the sun to come out to get some pics of them.

You capture is well timed, and I too like how the wing tips are grazing the water, and I also like slight natural framing.

I know you mentioned, Doug, that having my dog with me on my walks eliminates a high percentage of potential opportunities for photographs. You've submitted an excellent example of what happens when a dog and any sort of wildlife get too close. I have hundreds of photos of the blurred back side of deer, wild turkeys, geese, chipmunks and anything other creature that gets close to Ollie. At 10 pounds, he once took on a full sized deer who decided that there it would take less energy to charge my dog than flee.

Certainly this isn't your best posting, but it makes me feel that there is yet some hope for me. Congratulations on keeping any motion blur to a minimum.

I'm not afraid of dying. I just don't want to be there when it happens.

I believe when a photographer catches the improbable and extraordinary, such as a Heron taking flight with both wing tips touching water, it more than compensates for an expansive background of tiny ripples. To me this photo proves that composition isn't always the big thing. Congratulations on a dynamic capture!
