This is called "Old Mountain Trail", and meanders through the hills and mountains from Marfa to Presidio, Texas. Can't remember the exact distance, and had to stop a few times to allow various dinosaurian species across the road, but about sixty miles. That single car was the only vehicle I encountered in either direction until I reached Presidio.

Doug, even I noticed the excessive sharpness in the roadway. Although in Texas they might allow what's called oil and chip which is outlawed here. Nice job on creating the graduated colors in the sky. A glorious background in those rugged looking hills.

I've been on a few roads like this. There's one in Nevada that's called the "Loneliest Road in the US". I love driving on these roads because you don't even have to pull onto the shoulder to take a shot.

Nice lead-in with the highway & guardrail. The contours & textures of the hilly landscape are interesting. Wonderful capture, Doug.

I like the view you've captured in this photo. Nice composition and a sense of loneliness. I assume the over-sharpening is responsible for the blue tint in the shadows and along the guard rail.

It's a spectacular scene and superbly composed. I like the way the horizon drops a little lower on the left. But I can tell the photo itself is straight by the flawlessly perpendicular guardrail supports. The coloring is dramatic and powerfully conveys the desert environment. The crisply granular look of the road, noted by others, is surprising because it looks sandier than a Florida beach. The yellow line is a highlight of cheerful color.
