This shot is from a original B&W negative image from the early 1960's. A equestrian competition I was filming for the news, this was a grab shot between movie takes. No excuses. If it wasn't for the hat, I'd have thrown it out.
That hat's a Great touch! Even though this is a Frameshot, I think it's Grand! Nice job Rendering it, I think the softened Features give it a Sense of Motion...
This is a great shot with excellent timing. You caught both horse and rider in the perfect position to make the jump successful . The hat in the air is an added bonus , but I love the classic jumping clothes and the tack. Wish we still wore these today , with a helmet of course . Excellent post !
The horse looks like he's made of silk. I'm not sure how you take an old black and white negative and turn it into this, but I don't see anything worth making it a throw away. The hat helps, but it's still a nifty shot.
"If it wasn't for the hat, I'd have thrown it out" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To clarify the above remark, The composition is seriously flawed. The back legs are partially cut off, nor is there sufficient space behind the rear legs to provide the best overall balance. What little you can see of those legs shows just where the tremendous power is generated... and that's the difference a fraction of a second can make. I love the shot. Just hate what I missed :-).
Thanks for clarifying your statement. An odd smoothness in the photo that lends a certain charm to the image. The hat certainly does make the shot. Nice recovery work.
The reason why the sun sets in the evening is because it wants to see the sunrise in the morning. I rise in the morning because I want to see them both. RvdB
