Just came across this memorial to the Butterfield Stage on a secondary road in desert country. Having grown up on double bill Westerns every Saturday (12 cents), I saw many a stagecoach robbery.
A good capture of the memorial Doug, we take so much for granted these days, the hardships they endured are know but I think hard to totally understand. Tigs♥ =^..^=
Great historic shot, Doug. I still watch westerns and still love the stage coach robberies. I believe it was John Butterfield who said to his stage coach employees 'Remember boys , nothing on God's earth must stop the mail ".
At first I thought you might be dating yourself, Doug, with the comment about the 12 cent matinees, then I realized that you were just trying to throw us off. I believe that you were one of the stage drivers, right? :-)
Looks like a good dose of ReDynaMix went into this work. Love the textures, and the B/W really works. I notice that you didn't center the subject. You're finely learning.
Super shot and work. That would be so cool to do a long horse back ride over all those miles and states. Where do I sign up, I'm ready for a long long ride.
The reason why the sun sets in the evening is because it wants to see the sunrise in the morning. I rise in the morning because I want to see them both. RvdB
An interesting and informative shot. It could use some contrast, shadowing or something along the top edge of the plaque to create some depth to separate it from the background.
