Reporting in after completing another assignment I was told to check out a tractor-trailer accident on #401 highway a few miles East of Windsor,Ontario. This is what I found on arrival a few minutes later. What is Unforgettable is the fact that there wasn't a Fire truck, a Police presence. or anyone else but me. Not even any traffic on the highway. There was no one in what was left of the cab, that I could see. I finished filming, shot a few stills and was on my way back in about ten minutes. On the way the newsroom informed me that the driver had been picked up and taken into the hospital, but apparently only suffered a few scrapes and bruises but no burns.Nobody seemed to know the whereabouts of the Fire and Police departments, though the smoke could be seen for miles.

It is not uncommon that press photographers are the first to arrive at the scene Doug. What an awful accident but at least no deaths or serious injuries. Your image shows it all well.

A tragic scene & it's amazing the drivers made it out alive. In my small rural area I've known the newspaper reports to be the first on a scene as well. I really wonder what delayed the Fire & Police Dept's.

Doug, you captured the moment very well & I like your presentation. A great piece of photojournalism.

I guess you were the only "Johnny on the spot," with the exception of the driver of course.
Another good shot from your archives.

Wow I am surprised no one was killed or seriously injured. This is an excellent shot, Doug.
The B&W tones really works well with the smoke.

The image is a powerful expression of how life can really get serious and deadly. You captured and conveyed it well. I would have liked a little less clarity for a more natural look.
