It's still 1955 and the Circus has just arrived in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. It will soon be dark, but the supports and cables are almost ready to raise the Big Top (tent) with the aid of the show's biggest performer. The silhouette wasn't my initial intention, and flash would only cover a few feet. I just took a meter reading and used the smallest lens opening useable in the fading light.... and that's where I learned about silhouettes. There's a moral here... don't be afraid to shoot even if you don't know what you're doing.

The elephant and rider and the other men all in silhouettes look good against that background. It is not easy to take a clear photo against the brighter light.

Excellent advice, Doug. Sometimes I don't know what I'm doing (like with waterfalls) ... then I experiment away with the camera settings to get different effects.

I love silhouettes & the foreground one adds alot of depth to the scene. Looks great in B & W. Excellent.

I always view the shots full screen, and it's a good thing I did. I thought from the postage stamp size, that this was a silhouette of the circus fatman.

Thanks for the moral. Since I rarely know what I'm doing, I shove have a treasure trove of interesting shots. :-)

Another beauty, Doug, from when I was a mere lad.

Takes me back to the movie "The Greatest Show on Earth," Doug.
I still remember Jimmy Stewart as "Buttons," the Clown.
I love the silhouettes and lesson learned.

Doug - The silhouettes work well for this image. Accidental perhaps - pleasing none-the-less. Thad

That's not a moral that's my motto.

A good silhouetted capture and b/w scene Doug.
