This is South-Eastern California, where the Sonoran and Mohave Deserts meet the Rocky Mountains. It's also the location of Joshua Tree, national park. The sky was quite unnatural, with fog and smog layers to the West above the mountains, and then deep blue and clouds above the desert. I intended cropping most of the sky before realizing how much it resembled the tonal range of the mountains below.
