There's been quite a bit of TV and Press coverage of JFK's assassination fifty years ago, .....yet I wonder if we'll ever know the truth. It was late in the day when I shot this at the arena in Pontiac, Michigan. It was the third and final political rally of the day, all of which I had covered. I knew he recognized me as the Canadian from just across the Detroit river in Windsor, Ontario, but I've always thought the grin was for the response I gave his question, early that morning. At the breakfast Press Conference he had asked me what Canadians were thinking with regard to the close presidential race. I hadn't a clue but suggested they would be happy to see a President that spent less time on the golf course, and got the same grin.

Doug, a very nice tribute to JFK. I doubt that we will ever really know the truth about that day. I have that day of events seeded in my brain. Tigs♥ =^..^=

Being at a certain minor age at that time this event seems like the first one that I do remember as a human being. I can see a big cover of a magazine with quite a similar face - in colour too!
Please reply to me in an extensive email and/or PM about your past connections/relation with press/media and Presidents. [CIA I am not neither FBI nor any KGB or Mossad or whatever - just plain undercover SOS agent - so called home made LOL].

I think most of us baby boomers have the day firmly fixed in our minds - I was 12 in a Catholic grade school - that whole weekend seems surreal to me. This is a wonderful portrait Doug - you certainly captured that "Kennedy grin".

A most fitting tribute to our slain President. I was a kid, though I do remember the day and the subsequent funeral ceremony. Conversation pertaining to the who and why elements behind the assassination make for interesting speculation. I assume that we'll never know the real story. Thanks for sharing your photo with us.

Thanks for posting this, Doug... I have to admit to a little envy that you not only photographed him but shared a few words as well. ;-) I was just seventeen and in school at the time; my parents were delegates at the 1960 Democratic Convention, so the Kennedys had been a part of my life for several years. And here I am now on Cape Cod, living not that far from Hyannisport. My musician husband played in the band that was routinely hired to play at the Compound while Senator Ted was still with us.

How fascinating that you were able to not only photograph but speak to JFK! I *tip my hat to you Doug.

I was in high school and as so many others, remember the moment in time when the announcement came over the PA system and exactly where I was standing.

I was glued to our B&W TV & watched all the events, news coverage including the second assassination.

What moments in history I witnessed and the landscape of our country has been forever changed.

Thank you Doug!

A good portrait of the man Doug. The bit of the chair behind his shoulder is a slight distraction/intrusion in the photo. An easy clone job could have painter over it.

I'm impressed Doug that you not only got to take a picture of the President but also speak to him. I was only a child when you did this. Bravo! I liked what you said to him.
