a fence protects fragile dunes at nauset light beach in the cape cod national seashore, eastham, massachusetts... the sign reads: "Danger, sliding cliffs, keep off." during storms, the open ocean erodes these dunes at the rate of three feet a year... which means, since I moved to the cape 28 years ago, at least 84 feet of land has disappeared forever... six cape cod lighthouses, including the one at this beach, have been moved several hundred yards inland to protect them from destruction...

Very good. Reminds me of the fences back home to keep the snow out. (And this would not be as good without the fence) ;-)

Great amounts of facts - answers the question I asked earlier about the erosion (3 feet WOW) The fence really looks very fragile :)
