the purple and white seashells were made into beads for jewelry and currency by the native americans, called 'wampumpeag', or 'wampum' for short... artists all over cape cod now make the shells into beautiful jewelry usually set with silver... the larger shell was only an inch long, and I didn't arrange them, they were just lying like this, nested in the sand... (note: best if viewed full screen)

I LOVE this picture. The atrention to detial is truly astounding. I love that fact that every grain of sand is exemplified in this picture, just as much as the shells themselves.
