my friend Chris and I went to the local powwow last weekend, a three-day event hosted by the Wampanoag tribe over in mashpee on cape cod... the wampanoag were the native people who helped the pilgrims survive their first winter in what is now plymouth, massachusetts, and who joined the pilgrims in the first thanksgiving... yes, they are still around... a couple of years ago they won their struggle with the US government to be 'recognised' as a nation... big of us, I know... but I digress... this feather and beadwork decoration is part of a costume to be worn during dancing and celebration...

A subject close to my heart, though we have no powwows here of course. We do have general gatherings that include some English people of Native American and English/European Shamanistic beliefs.
I love this shot, very colourful.

Love the capture Mary, such depth-textures-colours & clarity. Wonderful how the background & lighting highlights the feathers.

Great capture Mary! It is hard to get these sometimes because of the constant movement of the dancers. You really captured all of the colors. Great work.

It is very interesting to see this up close HF. I can see you out there dancing around with them. Glad they finally won their battle to be a nation. The headdress is beautiful and much work went into its creation I would imagine.
Good post.

On a scale of 1 to 10 - perhaps a 20. :) Kudos on a fine photograph.

I am very much interested in Native America culture and anything about them. This is a superb image with great lighting, color, focus and composition. Did I leave anything out? Excellent.
