at the powwow last july, two hawks, three owls and this turkey vulture were featured... appropriately enough this guy was lurking in back, though I managed to catch him catching up on his feather maintenance... turkey vultures are impressive in the air, with wing spans of six feet, but a close-up view gave me the impression that his head was somehow shrunken by some voodoo dust...

Mary - That is one impressive bird - with one ugly head! And the beak - no wonder they can clean a carcass so quickly. The feather colors are nicely captured in this photo. Thad

A perfect summer day is when the sun is shining, the breeze is blowing, the birds are singing, and the lawn mower is broken. - James Dent

Wonderful detail on this vulture. They sure do look magnificent when they are soaring the sky, but up close their head just doesn't quite fit that body for some reason or another. Love how it's giving you the 'eye'. Very well done Mary.

Quite a handsome fella for a Vulture Mary, these underrated birds play such an important role I have to admire them.

There's wonderful detail here.

They look like a turkey that came out the other side after a nuclear blast. I am always impressed with their ability to land and take off a thousand times a while eating a rabbit in the road. They are determined if nothing else. Such a good capture HF.

They are very graceful in the air. But darn God made them ugly. Great capture though.
