a few months back I trucked on over to the bay to take in the sunset... everyone was watching the sun sink into the water when this great blue heron flew in, circled and touched down right in back of where I was standing. I don't think anyone else saw this... certainly not the photographer standing up to his ankles in marsh muck with his camera mounted on a tripod facing west... it sometimes really pays to watch one's back, photographically speaking....

WOW, this is just amazing Mary! You lucky girl! Gorgeous sunset tones on the water and stunning detail to the Heron. That wingspan is incredible!!

Spend a few minutes each day being grateful for what you have and who you have to share it with.
Good pose and timing in your capture Mary. Nice details and colours in the scene and nice textures in the water. A levels adjustment increasing the amount of white and adding a bit of contrast would add some depth in the sand and lighten the shadows on the heron.
