I studied this and decided that the best part is the restrained use of snippets of texts visible, just, through the stencil like swirls in the top left. Oh, and the jewel thingy is cool too!

*wakes up with a startle on Daves' images' page*

Whaaa?!?! Huh?? How'd I get here??

*peers up at Dave's creative offering*

Welllll ... since I am here, I guess I could say a few ... few words. I'm alll about efficiency you know. You know, the "ol' bird in the hand, gathers no moss kind of thing." (It really doesn't, you know.)

Excellent colour choices. That electric blue is incredible.

Things that suck ... er, I mean could be addressed in my most humble and lowly of opinions ... the curly things. Yes, I like that element as it does fit in with the overall design ... I might have been tempted to recede or pull back on the ones you did include in your design here and change their scale ... and then added one more in the right hand bottom corner ... suitably sized so as to not overwhelm ... to provide some additional balance.

Highly creative illustration. I think you are definitely showing some real versatility as an artist.

I look forward to the documentary of your life; "The Making of a Design Monster: I Knew Him Then." Starring me, Gemma, Jamie and Steph, Noah. Comic relief provdied through cameo appearances by TimmIE.

The director's cut will have additional commentary by KEIFER.

Uh ... I did say I liked this, I hope. :o|

p.s. Sorry, got caught up there ... my fingers have a life of their own at times.

Oh, oh ... 'they' are heading for my nose ... again. >:o/

OK. So let's see if I've understood this. You ran this off in 5 minutes and put more into the jewel than into previous jewels? That would be all of 45 second or so, I guess...

I don't think this is your best work, but it's good and makes an attractive desktop. I agree with some of the previous comments about balance. It would also be nice to give the curls a slightly 3d appearance, but not too much or they would overwhelm. I don't mind them " intruding" into the central design, though I wouldn't 3d them there. I think the colour scheme is well chosen and the relatively monotone colouring is what helps to keep the disparate elements together.

Not that I know anything about making this kind of thing, so please take the above with the relevant helping of salt.
