EDIT: I'm sorry, I thought I'd write more than I did, please excuse me for that, comparing you to your gallery, you seem much more experienced in your uploads compared to what you look like here. I don't kno if that makes any sense.
When my dad saw this last night, he laughed out loud and then commented that I look like I am trying to get into "GQ" (which he had to explain to me). I wanted to do a little more than turn the camera around and paste an idiotic grin on my face, so here goes. I believe that this is about as positive as the positive side of studio lighting can get, because I am not photogenic. I took 245 pictures in the set, and most of them were of me (about 2 turned out). I used black lights to make the color of my shirt stand out (it looked dead without; the differenc is startling), so I had to try to set the timer, turn off the light and jump into position while not knocking the black lights off of the bed and camera strap holding them. I learned that "modeling" positions, while they look comfortable, they really aren't. The hardest part was getting it to focus on me when I wasn't in front of the camera during that stage of the photo (it would be more convenient to set the shutter timer and have it focus at the last second).
For the record, I don't want anyone to get the wrong impression...
"Pity? It was pity that stayed Bilbo's hand. Many that live deserve death. Some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them, Frodo? Do not be too eager to deal out death in judgment. Even the very wise cannot see all ends. My heart tells me that Gollum has some part to play yet, for good or ill before this is over. The pity of Bilbo may rule the fate of many."- "I wish the Ring had never come to me.
I wish none of this had happened..." "So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us."-Gandalf
Hey you're not too bad looking! Lol. Great self portrait and good job with the black lights, they do make the shirt stand out. It's nice to see a face behind a screenname sometimes. =)

I would say you are photogenic...of course not too many of us enjoy our own picture or voice for that matter. Nice to meet the good commenter. You did a good job on this:-)
Hi there Luke......great shot you amnaged to capture after all fo yoru attempts :). I am sure that despite the many shots you took, it was still fun experimenting. I like putting a face to a name......:~)
Good ingenuity too!
Somehow I can just picture you running back and forth..posing and trying again..tough job! lol..but what I like about this photo is the lighting! The colour is so great...the way it just illuminates part of your face and arms..the best is the way it shows on your face..and the black light worked wonders! Nice to hear someone else has one besides me! hehe..and whether you like it or not..this is a real provocative photo!(smiling)...verena
nice to meet you, although u look a little tense...is fine, I guess I u would try it to get this one in B&W , it would look more atractive...but is nice shot!!!!
my new "Guess WHO is"
You think this is tense, you should see my school ID. My eyes burn a hole in whoever looks at it, no joke!
I did try converting it to monochrome, but it really is the colors that make this photo. It almost hurt to look at grayscale, which means that the black lights are doing more than just the shirt.
Believe me, the photo is not meant to be provocative; I just couldn't think of what I was supposed to do when the picture was being taken. Self portraits are either snapshots, reflections, or ing. Since the only reflective surfaces in my room are my windows at night (and yes, I did try), I decided to go for the ing style. We have lots of mirrors through out the house, but we had company over. It was better to lock myself in my room with my sterio on. :-)
hey ... see if you can get a picture taken when you're being arrested .. those are always COOL
back in the 80's I did a series of "freeway portraits" .. where I positioned myself close to traffic, at twilight, wearing mirrored sunglasses, star filter on the camera lens, and cable release in hand .. so as traffic went by I got the streaking tailights and my flash put stars in my eyes
but only because I was cursed with uncooperative friends
This is very good, the blacklight is clever ... (the fact that you have a blacklight .. sheesh)
wow, hi. You did an awesome job with the lighting in this pic. It makes you look all mysterious. And like Keith said, it's great how you actually have the means of getting said lighting. Great job. It's nice to see you ;) (do we get to see that school ID too? :p)
Hehe, I don't plan on uploading it. Maybe I can find some way to scan it in and email it or something. ;-)
Just out of curiosity, is it odd to have a black light? They aren't some $300 concert light or a studio version of the same thing, they are just typical black lights that you could purchase for cheap at, well, those type of stores. Think $20 a piece, and that is on the high end.
ok, now that i'm done w/that (lol), I agree, the lighting & color makes this shot. the warmth of ur skin against the background pulls you into the picture, while the blacklit shirt gives contrast and life to it.
Cool Picture Man. The black light was a pretty innovative idea, And I hate to tell ya but you seem photogenic to me. and what does your shirt say? i can't figure it out
"start a revolution", except mirrored, but then it has that mirrored again below it. You can either read the top one looking in a mirror or the bottom one by picking up the bottom of the shirt from the wearer's perspective and looking at it normal. :-)
Well Thank You For Taking The Time To Tell Me That. But i just like to admire what those of you with talent can do. I have no idea what a revolution and mirrored stuff do. Maybe You can help me cheat and just tell me what your shirt says?
Omg @ you telling me the first time, and me still not getting it lol, im an airhead,,,, everything is difficult for me to read. just kidding, kinda sorta :\
Long hair? Me? Nah...I still think all those "cool" guys look like the characters in the old Star Wars movies. :-) If I did grow it out or something, I don't really know what I would do, but I refuse to try because I am fairly certain that my hair is curly, but I don't want to admit it. I actually really needed a hair cut in this picture.
GQ, as I have heard through the grapevine (or atleast the human version of such), is short for Gentleman's quarterly, or something along those lines. I would compare it to a whole list of magaizines displaying females, but I honestly can't come up with a bunch of names. Playboy is one of those right? Anyways, it is a magazine displaying guys in a dubious manner, and if you haven't heard of it, believe me, there is no shame.
So that's what GQ is, hey hey I'll go check that out! I'm joking of course. Ha ha, Star Wars guys... funny one, Luke Skywalker. Is that your last name? ;)
You are so hilarious!!! O my gosh... so, my computer works now.. haha. um, you make me laugh so hard! i think that is my new favorite picture of you. haha! well, i wasnt able to come to cell group tonight, so i will see you wednesday.

Nice picture. I think the lighting in this shot did work for you. Glad that you were able to finally get a good shot. It seems kinda funny how you did have to go back & forth to get a good picture. Regardless. This is nice :)
Anyone who's tried this knows how many shots you had to try just to get something useable. And this one makes a great introduction. Skillful use of the blacklight too, there's just enough of it reaching you to hit the shirt but not effect the whites of your eyes or kill the fabric and skin tones. Hello.
That brings up an odd question...you know how girls always say that the first thing they notice about guys is the eyes? Well, is it the whites that you were referring to that they always notice?
Wow Luke....Do you need an agent!??????? :) Just look at the downloads!!!!!!!!!! At this writing, you had 111 downloads!!!!!!!!!!! Awesome! Not only the subject is beautiful, but you are a thoughtful person and very talented. Best Wishes always!
I don't think the whites of your eyes is exactly the first thing girls notice. I've always liked the iris. Just my opinion of course, but I'm a girl, I should know. :P
Yeah, well, they lie. I have it on the highest authority that most all will say "The eyes!" when asked, but in reality it has to do more with build and posture. Feel free to disagree...this could get interesting.
lol to your dad's GQ comment. I think this was a really good experiemt and turned out well. I just thought maybe trying this again with a large mirrior underneath you or something to that effect. As for being tense, I think it adds emotion, in a good way. I see the blotchiness in your shirt and see how grayscaling it would affect it. My only critique would be to slightly sharpen the face/eyes. (P.S. I'll have my rework of your picture up soon ^.^ sorry it's taken forever)
Lol, well since you'd like to negotiate what girls notice first, I'll give you my opinion (keyword, 'opinion'). PERSONALITY! It's actually more important than you guys think. In the physical perspective, eyes and I notice their smile, too.
Remind me to take a dip in a vat of glow-in-the-dark ink every morning before school. ;-)
I agree with the importance of personality (what else is there?), but unless the person is the class clown or a literal wallflower, it often isn't immediately apparent.
i like this self portrait. both of the pictures i posted were self-portraits. i just didn't put them in that category because i didn't want people to think i was self-obsessed because i have 2 pictures with myself as the subject. i would love to take pictures of other people but no one really wants to. they all claim to be camera shy. o well. anyway, i think this is a really good picture. o, and i thought the tail light pictures were interesting. i took one of those before and it looked pretty cool. i've been considering posting it.
