The reenacted battle was very real. This is a zoomed photo so everything looks close together but the were far apart or in shooting range. Once again I wanted the photo to look like it came out of an old frame.

You did a great job Ted - it looks as though it is right out of the 1860s. Good detail, wonderful framing.

The aging you've done really makes it look quite old and their re-enactment and all that smoke makes this very authentic looking...good work!

---The reenacted battle was very real---

Ted, after I have viewed your 'artwork' (!) at full screen size, I agree with you, so it's almost superfluous to say that it was very realistic. Excellent photography my friend. My compliments!

Ted - you have achieved the desired effect on this image - looks very real - could have been photographed by Matthew Brady himself!!! Excellent!!!

Saw your other B & W conversion, Ted, too.

Really nice job on that note and for both photos (including this one, stating the obvious and to be clear.)

Caveats?

The framing used here is better.. if I may be bold.

I do have a suggestion, though, and still on the note of and with respect to the framing.. found via an on site tutorial.. this one:

Sepia & Ageing Effects Tutorial

Final results in larger resolution:

Outcast: 2

To my mind and eyes.. employing the tutorial, and again.. with respect to the 'framing' achieved.. looks a lil' more 'natural' (faded, discoloured border of an old photo).

Just some more creative food for thought.

That said..

Well done.

And..

But, of course.. thanks for sharing your efforts, both, behind the lens and in the editing chair. :o)

This is great! I love re-enactments and you captured the mood perfectly. The frame is a great addition. Really nice one!

Excellent post-shutter work, Ted, but you know the experience I have with this sort of artifact and I'm thinking the deteriorated areas should actually be blacker, with an occasional spot that might looks slightly transparent, as though made of India ink. In the real thing it's often a separation of silver nitrate in the old prints and discoloration and age abuse in glass negatives. Otherwise your treatment of the shot makes it look entirely believable. Great shot.
