Once the home of Andrew Jackson this was a 1000 acre working plantation. Yes they would have up to 150 slaves working the plantation. This image represents one of the cabins and also the spring house they once used. The son and daughter-in-law lived above the their means and Andrew Jackson had to help keep them out of trouble. After his death they still lived beyond their means and after the son died his wife Sarah was selling belongings and also parcels of property. There was a record kept of all of this and years later alot of the goods were traced and bought back for display in the house. The parcels of land were also acquired and they actually have 1020 acres today. The Hermatage society wanted to buy more nearby land to keep eye sores away but that effort failed some. From one point you can see a tall building off in the distance and from another point you can see a CVS Pharmacy but that is it. I walked along the edge of the fields that were once so labored over. It was a humbling feeling too see the inside of the cabins that the slaves lived in. I might have an image of that worthy of posting yet also. I also thought to myself how nice it would be to have so much property and could see myself on horseback riding the property line and not having to worry about traffic. I must say it was very peaceful. sandi ♪ ♫ ♪

I would love to have a place like that in the Rockies in Colorado. That would be Heaven to me. Very nice picture, Sandi. The colors and the quality are perfect. Great comp, too.

circuler sur cet immense terrain doit être plaisant et l'on doit sentir au plus profond de soi les côtés négatifs de l'esclavage...J'aurais les larmes aux yeux si je pénétrais dans ces maisonnettes..beautiful place

I felt like I was listening to Scarlett O'Hara describe how she felt about her beloved plantation. I could see you riding your horse and shouting out orders. Well not shouting, requesting out orders. Colors are beautiful and angle is perfect to give the feel of that era. Looks like Spring is getting close. Nice photo Tigz.

Wonderful clarity, Sandi and a great view of the cabins/houses. This place reminds me of Mt. Vernon, also a place where slaves were kept and used in the planting and the chores.
