Actually he was just out by the feeders and the lilac bush!

This has been really cropped ( and that might have affected some of the quality) too get rid of some ground covering that I did not want in the image. We have been putting old corn cobs out for the critters too eat, and for some reason I could not remove it properly in Photoshop. I have found it very hard to get shots of the junco's (their coloring and detail) I think I might have finally managed it in this one.

I did use the canon ef 70-300 IS USM lens at a focal length of 300.

Thank you in advance for your comments and any helpful advice.

He's a lovely little chap and worth the effort to capture.

Although he's overburdened by the black bands above and below and lost to about a third of the right hand side of the image.

A little more cropping (left of the tail and right of your text) and half of the black bands would really bring out the subject more.

I think you did get the coloring and detail of the Junco you were looking for. The black bands remind me of the boards of a wood fence and I am peering through the slacks and seeing the bird.

I'm a movie junkie, so the junco reminds me of a letterbox-Cinemascope movie. I like it Tigz, but I think you did lose a smidge of detail with the crop. Still a good post.

Very hard to make a good image in these difficult conditions Sandi as the natural background prevents a good contrast with the subject. Think however you've achieved the best possible result!

Ofcourse I think it would be more nice with less framing.. but I would do the same! You have to post with this quality (more than enough) your little friend. Now we are enjoying this lovely one too! Good solution for me Tigger : ) Mich

It isn´t easy to get a clear and detailed shot of a bird and especially not if the colors do not differ much from the background. I think you did a great job on this one my frind!
